These old-yet-rad cars are priced at a grand each. Which would you take to RadWood 2019?

These cars are similar in both price and purpose; cheap old coupes that need engine work and expensive parts. They have racing pedigree and handle well (when running).
Your challenge is to pick one and decide on a powertrain . Do you keep it stock? LS-swap? Or something super rad like a Mazda 13B twin-turbo?
What other upgrades would you do to make it an adequately ‘80s/’90s-tastic machine? I wanna hear your wildest ideas for these ...

944 with a straight six. Either a 2JZ or a BMW mill . I still think those Z cars are kinda ugly.

944. And did someone say twin turbo rotary?
Yeah.
That will work.

I prefer the 944, but I'd really want a 924.

Well for $1k they typically are pretty ugly...
But they can look pretty sweet if cared for.

944. Because box flares. Mercedes OM606 turbo diesel. Because why not.
I do have a soft spot for Z’s though.

I would’ve said the 300 but not for a 2+2. Find a way to shove a 90s BMW straight-6 or V8 in there and you’re set to Rad your way to Wood.

1992 chevy camero - $800 (kerrville)
dont just GO TO radwood......... take something competitive.........
you didnt say what the budget was for an engine upgrade, so i would go for it, throw away the hood, and get a big block chevy, and cram it in the engine bay. then for the 80s goodness, i would get some boat headers, and have them sticking up and out the top of the engine. put a 671 blower on it, and then paint the thing some hideous 80s graphics colors.....
like this but worse.......

A reason for wanting a 924 over a 944 or 944S? just don’t like the fenders?

Nah it’s just not a shape or style I like at all. Pristine, from the factory, modded to hell, beat to crap, whatever. Not a fan of Z32s.

I prefer without the fender flares. I figure they are both slow by current standards so looks and driving enjoyment is what matters.
